As the History Co:Lab’s KC Lead, Emily Wegner leverages her extensive teaching experience and expertise in K-12 Social Studies to foster meaningful connections between educators, students, and museum and cultural institutions in Kansas City.
Emily holds an Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in History. With over 20 years of teaching experience in various public school districts across the Kansas City area, she currently serves as the K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Specialist for the Lee’s Summit R7 School District. In this role, she is adept at implementing and supporting curriculum, resources, and programming within a K-12 setting.
Emily is actively involved with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, contributing to assessment development, content and bias reviews, and participating in the Balanced Assessment Collaborative for the Council of Chief State School Officers. These experiences provide her with a unique perspective on both system-level operations and hands-on implementation.
Passionate about bridging the gap between schools and the community, Emily is dedicated to helping teachers translate theory into practice and empowering students to find their voices through diverse experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Her extensive network of educators and institutions supports her mission to advance the goals of History Co:Lab and its collaborators.
