ecosystems for the future of learning

AUTHORED BY: EDUCATION RE-IMAGINED AND THE HISTORY CO:LAB IN PARTNERSHIP WITH The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching

what is a learner-centered ecosystem?

With Education Re-Imagined and in partnership with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the History Co:Lab co-authored and released Ecosystems for the Future of Learning in 2023. The pioneering report explores how learner-centered ecosystems that extend beyond traditional school boundaries help embed young people in their communities, making education more inclusive, impactful, liberating, and supportive of belonging.

By conducting a landscape analysis of emerging ecosystems that use a learner-centered, competency-based approach, we developed a new framework for assessing ecosystem readiness that puts forth a model for evaluating and integrating the people, practices, connections, and conditions that create youth-centered, community-connected learning environments.
