Since launching History Co:Lab KC, our first regional Learning Collaborative in 2020, we've helped build a youth-centered, community-connected learning ecosystem in Kansas City, MO forged by people, places, and partnerships, all dedicated to anchoring humanity in education.

HEAR WHAT KC’S YOUNG PEOPLE SAY ABOUT LEARNING:

At the History Co:Lab, our model for regional impact empowers local institutions and changemakers to enhance their alignment, effectiveness, and ability to capture impact.

Since 2020, supported by foundations like the Kemper, Kauffman, and Hall Family Foundations, we’ve done this in KC by piloting innovative Real World Learning formats and emphasizing teacher professional development and co-designed learning experiences.

This groundwork has helped us envision and sustain a vibrant, humanity-centered learning ecosystem across the region.

Through the communities of practice we create and connect, educators, museum professionals, and other leaders are empowered to drive a lasting shift in mindsets and practices, supporting youth- and humanity-centered learning across the region.

KC Summer Teacher Institute

Each summer, we invite high school arts and humanities teachers from the Metro Kansas City area to enhance their teaching through our KC Summer Teacher Institute—a professional development experience co-designed with teens, local museums, and cultural organizations.

The immersive program dives deep into the transformative power of Real World Learning and Client-Connected Projects (CCPs) and the learning science behind them. 100% of the educators who attended the 2024 Institute described it as the best PD they had ever attended.

community.thehistorycolab.org

Our online community of practice, community.thehistorycolab.org, was launched with the goal of supporting youth- and humanity-centered learning and began with the connection of KC educators in August 2024.

The space will continue to grow to connect all who are interested in exploring new ways to engage learners—in classrooms, museums, and beyond.

Join in to connect, learn, and grow alongside  educators and museum professionals who want to support young people’s thriving.
