THE HISTORY CO:LAB WINS PRESTIGIOUS GEN2GEN INNOVATION FELLOWSHIP

Press Release

Encore.org selects Fernande Raine, CEO of The History Co:Lab, for fellowship dedicated to groundbreaking intergenerational solutions

Milton, October 19 -- Encore.org recently announced that Fernande Raine has been selected as one of 15 Gen2Gen Innovation Fellows, a group of the nation’s most talented innovators and entrepreneurs marshaling their best ideas to create and scale intergenerational solutions.

Fernande Raine, a local social entrepreneur was selected from a field of more than 140 applicants. Her project aims to transform history education so that young people are inspired to become changemakers.

“I care passionately about empowering young people as changemakers for a better world,” Raine shared, “and I believe that we need to change how we teach history to make that possible. Single narratives and boring textbooks are hurting our democracy.”  Core to the work of The History Co:Lab is the production of an intergenerational podcast called UnTextbooked, in which young people dig into the past with famous historians to understand the systemic challenges of today.

Encore.org, a nonprofit bridging generational divides, launched the fellowship to spur and support new ways to bring older and younger people together.

The 15 fellows selected, ranging in age from 28 to 84, are bridging generational divides while also fighting for racial justice, creating affordable housing, empowering immigrant communities, healing trauma, reducing ageism and loneliness, preparing young people to lead, and so much more.

“In these polarizing times, the Gen2Gen Innovation Fellows pull people together to seek solutions, build bridges across divides, and find deeper connection in the process,” says Eunice Lin Nichols, VP of Innovation at Encore.org. “We’re so inspired by the urgency, creativity and impact of their work.”

Over the next nine months, fellows will meet with one another and with experts who will help them advance their work. Each fellow will receive $10,000 and the chance to present their ideas at a virtual showcase taking place in 2022.

The Gen2Gen Innovation Fellowship is funded by The Eisner Foundation, John Templeton Foundation, the May & Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, and RRF Foundation for Aging.
