THE LEARNING COLLABORATIVE

ACTIVATING MUSEUMS AND LIBRARIES AS HUBS FOR CIVIC LEARNING

WE BELIEVE IN “THE POWER OF” COLLECTIVE IMPACT,
EXPERIENCE- AND SCIENCE-BASED LEARNING

It takes a little TLC to inspire change and lasting learning. The Learning Collaborative was created to put community institutions are the heart and hub of civic learning. By working with Museums and Libraries and the “Power of” pillars, together we can create a learning system that worked for all students–one that inspires lasting learning.

OUR FRAMEWORK

Student growth begins with civic wellbeing–the state in which individuals, society and the planet can thrive as an integrated, balanced, and harmonious system. To achieve it requires the full spectrum of experiences, concepts, knowledge, and skills that activate our emotions and sense of self and agency, that inspires meaningful education.

This meaningful education does not come from tools and textbooks, it starts with community and experiences that foster engaged and relevant learning. Our framework builds upon a 21st-century, multi-faceted model to inform each student and their relationship with themselves, one another and society as a whole.

  • Doing leads to greater communication, collaboration, bridging of relationships and bonds. It allows us to question, evaluate and solve problems.

  • We access our emotions and feelings when we engage in experience and place-based learning. We feel seen and heard. We are able to connect, feel a sense of belonging and compassion with and for others, and builds agency, hope and curiosity for ourselves, our community and the world.

  • We build an ability to understand our own morality, discover our own values, ethics and leadership skills, and have a greater understanding of societal complexities and cause and effect.

  • There is no greater knowing than having a clear sense of self. Knowing who you are, how you interact with others, and where you stand in the global context, political and economic systems, and your part in inspiring and participating in history.
